Pot for Pets Legalized in California 2019

Illustration of a dog with a cannabis leaf and the California Republic flag, representing new legislation allowing veterinarians to discuss cannabis use with clients.

Veterinarians will soon prescribe Cannabis.

AB 2215 was signed by Governor Brown on September 27 and takes effect on January 1, 2019.

The CVMA (Califorina Veterinary Medical Association) was a driving force in the passage of this bill, that will allow veterinarians to discuss the use of cannabis with their clients.

The question is: are the veterinarians ready to prescribe?

Many veterinarians are accustomed to using generic response pharmaceuticals. I hope the CVMA takes their industry education seriously with more workshops on information such as: dosing protocols, how The Endocannabinoid System works and the difference/effects of the different types of products on the market! Not all products are created equally.

I look forward to continuing to assist in moving this very needed conversation forward!
