HEMP for CANCER?
In 2013 I lost my beloved dog Eva Chan to Cancer (Hemangiosarcoma).
Her death had a profound effect on me. I felt responsible for her suffering, but didn't know what to do.
Eva was a very special dog. I am not sure how to describe it. She was just that kind of dog that touched your heart. Other people noticed this quality in her as well. She was calm, easy going, and yet very protective and loyal. She seemed to teach you things just by being around her.
Eva Chan was the kind of dog you only find once or twice in your life.
Since her death, I have been deeply interested (and appalled) by the cancer epidemic in dogs and cats. When Eva died in 2013, there was little to no information on how to use Cannabis to treat animals with Cancer.
If I had only known then what I know now.
I never used CBD or THC while my dog Eva Chan suffered through her battle with Cancer. Why? Because I was actually terrified it would kill her. I couldn’t find any information on the subject, there were no products that had reliable dosing information, and no anecdotal testimonials to read.
Cancer is the #1 disease-related killer of dogs and cats.
An estimated 6 million dogs and nearly 6 million cats will be diagnosed with cancer this year. The Veterinary Cancer Society states: cancer is the leading cause of death in 47% of dogs, especially dogs over age ten, and 32% of cats.

47% of dogs!
I have always seen and known the power of Cannabis as a plant and even wrote an essay on the legalization of Cannabis- back in 1995!
Since then- and particularly in the last few years- the amount of information on the internet and in clinical studies has grown exponentially.
Over 15,000 studies have been done on Cannabis and Cancer, and the message is clear.
The use of cannabinoids as anticancer agents has positive results.
In “The use of cannabinoids as anticancer agents” Progress in Neuro-Psychopharmacology and Biological Psychiatry, Volume 74, 6 March 2017, Pages 57 the study shows:
The endocannabinoid system may play a dual role on the regulation of tumor generation and progression.
Administration of THC and other cannabinoids exert anticancer actions in animal models of cancer.
THC and other cannabinoid receptor-ligands induce cancer cell death and inhibit tumor angiogenesis.
Cannabinoids enhance the anticancer activity of other antineoplastic agents in animal models of cancer.
Cannabinoids are currently being tested as anticancer agents in phase I/II clinical studies
In essence, cannabinoids exert palliative effects on some cancer-associated symptoms. In addition, evidences obtained during the last fifteen years support that these compounds can reduce tumor growth in animal models of cancer. Cannabinoids have been shown to activate an ER-stress related pathway that leads to the stimulation of autophagy-mediated cancer cell death. In addition, cannabinoids inhibit tumor angiogenesis and decrease cancer cell migration
WHAT CAN CANNABINOIDS DO TO SUPPORT YOUR CANCER PATIENT??

"There is mounting evidence, according to a report in Mini-Reviews in Medicinal Chemistry, that cannabinoids “represent a new class of anti-cancer therapies that retard cancer growth, inhibit angiogenesis [the formation of new blood cells that feed a tumor] and the metastatic spreading of cancer cells.”
Dr. Sean McAllister, a scientist at the Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco, has been studying cannabinoid compounds for 10 years in a quest to develop new therapeutic interventions for various cancers.
Backed by grants from the National Institute of Health (and with a license from the DEA), McAllister discovered that cannabidiol (CBD), a nonpsychoactive component of the marijuana plant, is a potent inhibitor of breast cancer cell proliferation, metastasis, and tumor growth.
In 2007, McAllister published a detailed account of how CBD kills breast cancer cells and destroys malignant tumors by switching off expression of the ID-1 gene, a protein that appears to play a major role as a cancer cell conductor.
The ID-1 gene is active during human embryonic development, after which it turns off and stays off. But in breast cancer and several other types of metastatic cancer, the ID-1 gene becomes active again, causing malignant cells to invade and metastasize. “Dozens of aggressive cancers express this gene,” explains McAllister. He postulates that CBD, by virtue of its ability to silence ID-1 expression, could be a breakthrough anti-cancer medication.
“Cannabidiol offers hope of a non-toxic therapy that could treat aggressive forms of cancer without any of the painful side effects of chemotherapy,” says McAllister, who is seeking support to conduct clinical trials with the marijuana compound on breast cancer patients.
McAllister’s lab also is analyzing how CBD works in combination with first-line chemotherapy agents. His research shows that cannabidiol, a potent antitumoral compound in its own right, acts synergistically with various anti-cancer pharmaceuticals, enhancing their impact while cutting the toxic dosage necessary for maximum effect.
THC also shows incredible promise in helping to stop cancer. How?
THC is anti-proliferative. Meaning that it inhibits cancer cells from reproducing. One of the hallmarks of cancer cells is that they keep replicating, they are immortal and unstoppable, that’s the problem. “THC inhibits protein synthesis so that tumors cannot grow.” (Dr. Donald Tashkin Pulmonary and Critical care UCSF)
THC has an antiangiogenic effect. Here THC inhibits the ability of cancer cells to grow new blood vessels. Stop blood vessel formation and you prevent cancers from feeding and oxygenating thus encouraging their demise. (My dog Eva's Cancer spread from her leg to her lungs- all through the blood vessels)
THC is anti-metastatic. THC prevents cancers from spreading from the main tumor into other parts of the body. Keeping a primary tumor from metastasizing is of paramount importance in reducing death rates in cancers. The mets are which generally kill the patient by disrupting organ function and starving the patient of vital nutrients.
THC has a powerful apoptotic effect. Meaning that THC induces cancer cells to commit suicide. This is a feature of normal cells but malignant cells have lost that ability so they live forever. This effect hastens the death of cancer cells while leaving normal cells untouched.
THC stimulates CB receptors on tumors to produce ceramide. Ceramide is a compound that enters cancer cells and inactivates the cell’s energy source the mitochondria. This leads to cell death.
Anecdotally, both THC and CBD have shown success with Cancer patients.
However, we still have a very long way to go when it comes to scientific proof that one cannabinoid is better for cancer treatment than the other.
While many sites will shout for the use of high THC protocols to treat Cancer, here at Cannimal we suggest starting your dog or cat with a very low dose of THC (less than .03% THC) similar to what is found in our Hemp Extract Formulas.
Studies show dogs and cats are more sensitive to THC than humans.
Researchers found that dogs have a high concentration of CB1 Endocannabinoid receptors (the receptors THC attaches to) in their hindbrain and medulla as well as other areas of the brain. This suggests that, in terms of compounds that include THC, dogs require less to get the desired effect.
The percentage of THC found in our Full Spectrum formulas is the legal limit for Hemp extracted products. Despite what many naysayers say... this amount is enough to have an effect for the Full Spectrum Entourage Effect. Read about The Entourage Effect here..
Starting your dog out on a HIGH THC protocol without considering these factors is extremely dangerous on the verge of abusive considering the psychoactive properties of THC that can result in delirium, intense fear, loss of muscle control or even death from toxic shock or “static ataxia,” first described in the 19th century and unique to dogs. Dogs in this condition rock rigidly back and forth and drool, their muscles tense up, and their pupils dilate.
Any animal who needs an immunity boost will benefit from consistent use of our Eva’s Blend Formula- this product combines the Power of Full 🌈 Spectrum CBD with the tumor fighting- immunity power of Turkey Tail Mushroom.
CBD also modulates the THC receptor and is essentially a “down regulator” of THC... as such the Cannimal Formulas can assist animals dealing with the effects of high doses of THC in their medical treatment.
ANOTHER HAPPY CANNIMAL “Chloe has been my baby for 17 years now. I got her when she was only a few months old. When she was diagnosed with an adenocarcinoma in her colon, I was devastated. I immediately looked into CBD oil and found that Cannimal had Eva’s Blend. I was so touched by Eva’s story. I bought a bottle and started right away. We had the mass surgically removed and I kept Chloe on Eva’s Blend ever since. I truly believe it’s made a difference in keeping the cancer from returning. She eats it in her food every day! I even started giving it to her sister as a precaution as well! I’m so thankful I found this company! I’ve told all my friends about it and also customers at the vet office I work at! Thank you!” -Kelly @kellyfox143
KEYS TO SUCCESS
It does appear however, that there are certain key elements for success:
Treatment needs to start early in cancer tumor diagnosis
The quality of the oil and consistency of the oil used for treatment
Oil needs to be tested and proven to be Pesticide, Metals and Toxin free.
Omega 3 rich diet free from contaminants an processed foods.
Strong belief it can work and commitment to the treatment is necessary!
